Civil Engineering
This $19M progressive design-build project with Absher+Integrus involved a 56,000 SF renovation of the historic four-story building which was originally built in 1902 and is the second oldest building on the UW campus. The Parrington Hall building is Landmarked and therefore required preservation of the building exterior. The renovation to Parrington Hall included the interior and reconfigures spaces to meet the Evans School of Public Policy’s program needs for flexible learning and office space, as well as update building systems.
AHBL provided civil engineering services for improving existing utility infrastructure (water, sewer) to support the added café. Improvements also included assessment and modifications to existing accessible parking spaces and pedestrian routes to meet UW accessibility requirements to the designated ADA entry to Parrington Hall. The existing site consisted of existing asphalt walkways that were converted to concrete. The site improvements were below the thresholds for flow control and water quality treatment. However, on-site stormwater management (bioretention) was used to meet permitting requirements related to the replaced impervious surfaces.
