The Bethel School District Transportation Center and Central Kitchen is one of the first K-12 school district projects to be delivered via the design-build method. The Central Kitchen includes all amenities and equipment for service deliveries, food storage and preparation, and support office spaces for food preparation for the entire school district. The 10-bay Transportation Center includes areas for office and mechanic staff, parts and tool storage, and a lube room.
The new facility includes a new bus parking area, employee parking, new sidewalks, plaza areas, a new stormwater management system, and sewer, water and fire utilities. The site provides parking for 224 buses and 287 cars, a bus wash and a fueling station. AHBL developed a landscape plan featuring planting and irrigation improvements, including building façade and entry treatments, an internal courtyard in a garden setting with seating for employee use, raised planters for herb and vegetable production, and parking lot landscaping.
