AHBL Leadership Transitions as we look toward future opportunities in 2024!

After working at AHBL for 26 years, Doug Tapp, PE will be retiring from AHBL effective December 31, 2023. Doug has been a civil engineer with the company since 1997 and led our Seattle Office’s civil engineering team with vision and leadership for over 14 years. Doug’s retirement creates opportunities for others in the firm to grow and take on new responsibilities. Todd Sawin, PE, DBIA will continue as AHBL President and will assume leadership of the civil engineering team in the Seattle. Doug and Todd have collaborated throughout 2023, to prepare for a seamless transition for our clients. Todd has been a civil engineer for 17 years and served as a civil principal with AHBL for the past eight years and servs as AHBL’s brand President. He will continue to lead AHBL’s growth in many markets including K-12 and Higher Education, Federal, Industrial and Mixed-use and Multifamily Development projects.

Doug TappDoug Tapp, PE launched his civil engineering career 30 years ago as a graduate of UW Seattle. He spent 26 years of his career working at AHBL. Doug built a strong portfolio for the firm in the educational (K-12 and higher ed.), civic, and multi-family housing markets throughout the Puget Sound region. Throughout his career he was mentored by the founders of AHBL and has spent the last 14 years, mentoring, and leading the Civil team in Seattle, WA. Doug earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington in 1993. Doug is looking forward to decompressing in 2024 from the pressures of running a successful business. He plans to reenergize his hobbies like hiking, fishing, boating, camping while spending more time with friends and family.

Todd SawinTodd Sawin, PE, LEED AP, DBIA works as a principal at AHBL and commitment to the corporation makes him an excellent choice to lead the Seattle Civil Division. He will continue to serve as President on the executive committee and provide guidance for the administrative functions of the firm, as well as work with his partners to continue to provide quality designs for our clients while developing innovative solutions to project challenges. Todd’s engineering experience includes design on a variety of project types including military, residential, commercial, municipal, and educational. These experiences allow him to utilize his relationships with municipalities to communicate and negotiate on behalf of his client’s projects to help meet their project goals and schedules during the land use, permitting, and construction phases. Todd is DBIA certified and is an expert with alternative delivery methods including design/build and GC/CM. He will continue to mentor the AHBL Civil teams in both Tacoma and Seattle to enable our clients to achieve success on their vital projects.

His corporate efforts include creating a positive work environment and continuing a culture of collaboration that attracts and retains talented staff whose growth and development that has been the cornerstone of AHBL’s 54 years of success.
