AHBL supported the Copper Apartments at Spanaway project with integrated land surveying, land use planning, civil engineering, and landscape architectural services. Designed to meet a critical need for affordable housing in Pierce County, the 18.7-acre community includes 256 units—most with two or more bedrooms—along with shared amenities such as a pool, carports, ample bike parking, and a maintenance building. Due to site constrains including wetlands, floodplains, and high groundwater tables, AHBL civil engineers responded with creative and thoughtful site planning to accommodate development within allowable areas while meeting rigorous regulatory requirements.

To create a cohesive and welcoming outdoor environment, AHBL’s landscape architects worked closely with the owner to select budget-conscious, low-maintenance plantings and materials that balance long-term durability with visual appeal. Thoughtful planting design, tree preservation, and connected open spaces help bring the site together and enhance daily life for residents.
