Permanent housing and support for homeless families

Gonzaga Family Haven provides permanent housing and wraparound support for families experiencing homelessness, serving 73 families in a safe, stable, and enriching environment. Developed by Catholic Charities in partnership with Gonzaga University and Gonzaga Preparatory School, the community features green space, a splash pad, a community garden, and on-site services such as case management, mental health counseling, and Head Start programming. AHBL played a critical role in the project’s success by delivering civil engineering and site design solutions that addressed steep grades, existing public utilities, and limited space for emergency access. Their team refined building layouts, pedestrian pathways, and grading strategies, and negotiated a creative easement to meet fire code requirements without compromising the site’s livability. Conveniently located near schools, parks, and public transit, Gonzaga Family Haven has been recognized as “a great model” for the nation by U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell.
