Housing Needs Assessment
Shaping a data‑driven housing action plan through robust public engagement
AHBL is providing full-service planning services to assist the City of Des Moines in preparing a Housing Action Plan (HAP) to satisfy the requirements of a grant that the City received from the Washington State Department of Commerce. With its project partner ECONorthwest, AHBL has prepared a Housing Needs Assessment that analyzes the City’s housing supply in the context the City’s existing demographic profile and projected growth. The document identifies gaps in housing supply by income level and housing type.
The Housing Needs Assessment will form the basis of the HAP. The HAP is a policy document and implementation guide to address current and future housing needs of the Des Moines community. The HAP will include an equity lens to develop clear, actionable strategies to meet current and projected housing needs and will serve as the basis for the Housing Element in the City’s Comprehensive Plan which AHBL is also under contract to prepare.
