Advancing hands‑on healthcare education through smart urban site design

AHBL provided civil engineering and land surveying services for this 64,000 SF Medical Mile Health Science Center for Bates Technical College in downtown Tacoma. The complexities of the downtown project site included the documentation of vacated right of way (ROW) that intersected the project site as well as relocating displaced parking after the West Annex was demolished.

The Medical Mile/Allied Health Science Center houses 11 programs including the colleges community health clinics which serve as a hands-on learning experience for students while providing the community with low-cost health services. The outdated building did not function well for students with outdated equipment and training areas that were difficult to access. The new building allows students to easily transition between classroom and training areas and access to updated equipment.
