When heavy rains led to a 60-foot slope failure damaging a watermain and destroying a public road, the City of Tacoma turned to AHBL to assess the situation, evaluate alternative solutions, and prepare construction plans. The preferred alternative consists of constructing a steel soldier pile and wood lagging wall along the downslope edge of the roadway fill. The project included geotechnical exploration, engineering analysis, and design to prepare the PS&E for slope stability, storm drain improvements, watermain replacement, and 200 feet of roadway repair.
