The expansion of the Mohler Campus was identified as an objective under the College’s 2008-2013 Strategic Plan. AHBL provided civil engineering, structural engineering and land surveying services for the design of this 2-story 53,000 sf addition to the Mohler Communications Technology Center. The addition replaces existing, undeveloped areas and parking facilities currently located west of the existing building.

AHBL’s civil engineering services included concepts for re-grading the project area and design for a new sanitary side sewer and water main loop for fire service. AHBL also analyzed downstream capacity and water quality treatment facilities. The project site’s location in the Thea Foss Waterway drainage basin does not require flow control if there is adequate capacity of the offsite system within a quarter mile downstream. Although the site is located entirely within the Thea Foss drainage basin, the site discharges stormwater to three downstream conveyance systems. AHBL prepared a preliminary analysis of each conveyance system to provide clarification of the existing stormwater discharge locations and the feasibility of direct discharge to the city conveyance systems. AHBL determined that treatment of stormwater from pollution generating impervious surfaces could be provided by a stormwater vault or bio-filtration facilities.

AHBL’s structural engineers provided support systems for server rooms, unique learning spaces, and a broadcast studio lab. The Mohler Center also provides spaces outside of the traditional classroom to facilitate collaboration and interaction between students and faculty.

AHBL’s surveyors prepared a final map depicting parcel boundary, topographic features, wetland boundary, and existing ground contours at intervals of 1 foot.
