Healing‑Centered Design for a Residential Behavioral Health Facility

The Auburn Enhanced Services Facility (Parks Place) is a new 10,500 SF, 16-bed residential behavioral health facility designed to provide intensive, long-term support for individuals with complex mental health needs. AHBL delivered civil engineering and landscape architecture services for this biophilic, nature-inspired project centered around a secure interior courtyard that serves as the heart of daily life. Anchored by an outdoor fireplace and shaped by boulders, reclaimed logs, native plantings, and a winding concrete “river,” the courtyard brings the forms of the interior architecture into the landscape while offering residents meaningful connections to nature. Light-filled communal spaces and thoughtfully designed outdoor environments create a calming, non-institutional setting that strengthens South King County’s behavioral health continuum and supports resident well-being.
