AHBL prepared a new master plan for the City of Spokane’s Finch Arboretum. The goal of the master plan is to organize the 65-acre site, improve circulation, and identify opportunities for revenue generating improvements to the park that will help it become more financially self-sufficient. The Arboretum is a widely used venue that is heavily used for spring and fall photography and weddings.

AHBL has been instrumental in working with the diverse stakeholder group throughout this planning process. The group is comprised of City Parks and Recreation, a local neighborhood residents group, local college and university representatives, arborist organizations, and the general public. AHBL led a visioning workshop with the core stakeholder group near the outset of the project. The group evaluated different facilities and created vision statements for the future of the park. The process also included three open houses. An online survey and social media campaigns laid the groundwork for the open house, while AHBL’s design team was available in-person to answer questions and share the vision for the Arboretum. The master plan also includes elements outside of the park footprint, like incorporating a pathway between the park and a popular hiking and cycling trail nearby, and improving wayfinding signage to the park in the city.
