The building, located along the major entry route to campus in Mount Vernon, is one of the first construction projects Skagit Valley Community College undertook to revitalize its image to attract future students.
The new 2-story building is steel-framed with a partial basement for mechanical equipment. AHBL’s structural engineers used cost-effective steel framing to accommodate future modifications or remodels. The second floor also has composite concrete on metal decking with composite structural steel beams. These beams span 40 feet and had to be designed to meet stringent vibration criteria for sensitive lab equipment. AHBL also provided structural engineering services for an extension to the existing utility tunnel to provide services to the new building.
