A vocal community and active stakeholder group encouraged replacing the dated building with a modern school facility.

The old Wainwright Elementary School in Fircrest was replaced with a new school serving grades 4 through 8. The decision to replace the old school, rather than remodel the existing, was based on feedback from a vocal community combined with knowledge of the condition of the 1924-era building.

The new school features a three-story building to house up to 450 students. The 7-acre site features parking lots for 59 cars; on-site bus and parent drop off areas to reduce congestion along frontage streets; new soccer/sports fields; and a covered play area. The project includes rain gardens in the parking lot and a stormwater detention pond in the corner of the site to manage stormwater. Utility services for the project include a new 12" water main loop and a new side sewer, sewer main, grease interceptor, and natural gas service.
