AHBL provided civil engineering and land surveying services for the new Alderwood Middle School. The $68M facility is approximately 100,000 SF with a two-story main classroom building adjacent to a one-story gymnasium, library, and commons area. The site included new track and field, baseball fields, parking lot, parent and bus drop-offs, as well as fire truck access around the building and planning for future portable classrooms.

Stormwater management included a constructed stormwater wetland, which provides both ecological benefits and a curriculum component with a walking trail and observation nook along the perimeter. The school embraced on-site stormwater management with pervious concrete for all pedestrian areas and bioretention cells for water quality within the parking lot.
