Arthur Jacobsen Elementary
Auburn School District, Auburn, WA
AHBL provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for Arthur Jacobsen Elementary School. This $12M project consists of a 10-acre site with a 30 ft grade change and includes the school, play areas, multi-use recreation field, entry plaza, parking facilities, and stormwater detention area. At 54,000 sf, the elementary school holds 650 students in grades K-5.
Civil design services included storm, sewer, water, grading, and drainage. Stormwater is collected from the baseball field and play area and supplies a wetland at the neighboring high school site. The remaining six acres of the site collect into a storm pond where it is treated and detained. The storm pond was designed to be aesthetically pleasing because it is the first feature to be seen upon entering the school. To comply with the "Large Lot High Impervious BMP" Requirement of the King County Surface Water Design Manual, AHBL designed a 55,000 sf on-site playground utilizing pervious asphalt. Landscape architecture services included planting and irrigation design for the entire site, playground design and site furnishings, and a multi-use playfield with softball/soccer field.
The school was completed on time and within budget in September 2007.
