AHBL Leadership Transitions as we look toward future opportunities in 2023!

After working at AHBL for 34 years, Dan Booth, PE/SE will be retiring from AHBL effective December 31, 2022. Dan has been a structural engineer with the company since 1988 and led our structural engineering teams with vision and leadership. Dan’s retirement will create opportunity for others in the firm to grow and take on new responsibilities. Todd Sawin, PE, DBIA will assume the role as president of AHBL. Dan and Todd have been collaborating this year, to prepare for a seamless transition. Todd has been a civil engineer for 16 years and served as a civil principal with AHBL for the past eight years. He will fill the role of President as well as serve on our executive team to streamline decisions made by the firm’s 12 principals and will continue to lead AHBL growth in many markets including K-12 and Higher Education, Federal, Industrial and Mixed-use and Multifamily Development projects.

 

Dan Booth, PE/SE launched his career at AHBL 34 years ago as a new graduate of UW Seattle. He spent his entire career working for AHBL. Dan utilized his natural-born skills to learn the science and art of structural engineering. Throughout his career he was mentored by the original founders of AHBL and has spent the last 20 years, mentoring, and leading the Structural Division in Tacoma, WA. Dan earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering and his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington. Dan’s technical skill set includes a deep understanding and respect for structural engineering for both public and private clients. His projects ranged from municipal, education, recreation, and commercial/industrial. In retirement, Dan is looking forward to decompressing in 2023 from the pressures of running a successful business. He plans to enjoy his new-found time away from the office with his wife, Helen, daughter, Tessa (15), and son, Elijah (18) as well as explore hobbies like fishing, kayaking and various home improvement projects.

 

Todd Sawin’s work as a principal at AHBL and commitment to the corporation makes him an excellent choice for the role of President. He will continue to serve on the executive committee and provide guidance for the administrative functions of the firm, as well as work with his partners to continue to provide quality designs for our clients while developing innovative solutions to project challenges. Todd’s engineering experience includes design on a variety of project types including military, residential, commercial, municipal, and educational. These experiences allow him to utilize his relationships with municipalities to communicate and negotiate on behalf of his client’s projects to help meet their project goals and schedules during the land use, permitting, and construction phases. Todd is DBIA certified and is an expert with alternative delivery methods including design/build and GC/CM. He will continue to mentor the AHBL Civil teams to enable our clients to achieve success on their vital projects. His corporate efforts include creating a positive work environment and continuing a culture of collaboration that attracts and retains talented staff whose growth and development that has been the cornerstone of AHBL’s 53 years of success.

 

Structural Leadership - Drew McEachern, PE/SE and Ken Leland, PE/SE, both existing principals, will continue to lead the structural department and meet our client’s needs, as well as expand our structural capabilities. AHBL’s focus will continue to be on providing our clients with prompt, cost-effective solutions to meet their project delivery goals and timelines.
