Bonney Lake, WA
Discovery Park Community Center Pavilion
AHBL served as the prime consultant for the design‑build delivery of the Discovery Park Community Center Pavilion in the Tehaleh neighborhood of Bonney Lake, constructed by Korsmo Construction for Brookfield Properties, with architectural services subcontracted to RGA Architects. The pavilion was designed to integrate with existing site elements—including community gardens, fiesta tables, a pergola, and a bandstand—drawing architectural inspiration from AHBL’s lodge‑style pavilion at Sehmel Homestead Park.
The building features exposed heavy‑timber framing with steel plate connections, indoor/outdoor accessible restrooms, a reception hall, two multi‑purpose rooms, storage areas, a mechanical mezzanine, and an expansive roof overhang that extends usable outdoor space. A large event area at the rear incorporates three oversized garage doors opening onto a concrete pad to support flexible indoor‑outdoor programming.
AHBL’s structural engineering scope included gravity and lateral system design for the building framing and foundations, including detailed timber connection design. Civil engineering services encompassed site grading, utilities, water and sewer systems, paved pedestrian circulation, and stormwater conveyance to an adjacent pond.
