Nisqually Indian Tribe Leschi Spirit House
AHBL provided civil and structural engineering and landscape architecture design services for the 6,000 SF Leschi Spirit House at the Nisqually Indian Tribe’s Chief Leschi Cemetery. The project included improved parking, pedestrian access, and stormwater management while minimizing impacts on adjacent housing and the tribal cemetery. Civil engineering services addressed utilities, site grading, drainage, and off-site improvements, incorporating bioretention systems and an infiltration trench. Structural design emphasized expressed timber elements consistent with tribal aesthetics. Landscape architecture focused on preserving existing trees, enhancing site circulation, and creating a forest edge with native plantings, complemented by an irrigation design for the entire site. Expressed timber structure elements were used for consistency with other Nisqually Indian Tribe projects, foundation plan, roof framing plan, foundation and roof framing details, and bidding and construction phase support for the contractor.
